TIME, TENSION, TRANSLATION


» I worked directly on a massive script that intertwined seamlessly across time, every word of Twelve Minutes had to be precisely chosen. Even the smallest details could hold the key to unraveling the game’s mysteries. And any mistakes in localization could derail the player’s experience. The emotional shifts of the characters needed to be captured perfectly, but the Turkish version didn’t have voice-over, so I relied on the script's nuanced clues to reflect their changing states by tweaking the repeating lines. As Willem Dafoe says in the ▶‘Making Of’ Featurette, “You play with your voice musically and emotionally, to get the variations. Part of your job is to make it live as if it were the first time...” This is exactly what I did linguistically. It required a delicate balance of control, creativity, and acute attention to context, ensuring that each twist felt as impactful in Turkish as it did in English.

It was a tangled loop I managed to solve well, and I am proud of my work on Twelve Minutes. «
