CAT GOT ROBOT TONGUE.
»One of the highlights of my translation career and a work I am most proud off. With many positive reviews from fans in Turkey about the quality of localization. For a game so massively popular, I am glad I didn’t let down anyone. This is another game I can relate to very deeply, because the cat has B-12 translate robots, and Annapurna got me translate STRAY. I nailed each pun about cats and robots with gusto. For example, ‘Telechat’ became ‘Tele-pati’ [pati means ‘paw’ in Turkish], ‘Cat-a-strophe’ became ‘Çok Pisi Felaket’ [pisi is how we call cats in Turkey]. I pumped some engine oil into a robot saying ‘You gave us such a fright!” in Turkish as “Az kalsın devremizi patlatacaktın!” [Rough back translation:
“You almost blew our circuit!”] When we say we got scared, we say ‘ödümü patlatacaktın’ in Turkish, literally, ‘You almost blew my bile!” So, this an example of context-aware culturalization, I turned a somewhat dull expression into a rich, idiomatic experience that fits this particular gameworld for the Turkish player.
I also found a very neat looking UI solution which goes with the technological style of the game perfectly while working around some linguistic problems, and also looking even better than the original in my opinion. Example:
Hold [ICON] to use the Defluxor > [ICON] Basılı Tut: Akkorışın Kullan«
The use of a colon allowed for a much smoother UI flow.”
