NAILING NAMES WITH POWER
»
Neon White’s youthful, humorous dialogue had to feel natural in Turkish. The religious undertones had to be handled sensitively. While the Soul Card names needed to capture the same bold, impactful energy as the originals.
For Dominion, I chose Hükümran, a weighty, authoritative word that conveys that sense of power and control. I nailed the term Stomp, which makes the player dive downward, as Çivile, [literally Nail It] inspired by the Turkish term for a feet-first dive into cool waters of the Aegean Sea on a hot summer day. Godspeed was especially tricky; its function in the game — a forward dash that punches through obstacles — inspired the name Dalgeç, which means “hole-puncher,” perfectly reflecting the card’s purpose. «
